Release 2 (November 2022)
First public version of the site on songs of oral tradition in French collected in Brittany and published
in books, magazines, manuscripts, vinyls, cassettes and CDs.
The census of these songs mainly takes into account works published between 1852 (L'enquête
Fortoul) and 2000. More recent works are included in the bibliography, but are not yet reviewed.
More than 8700 occurrences of songs are available. These occurrences correspond to 6260 different
versions and 2653 standard songs. They were collected from 946 interpreters in 460 communes by
392 collectors. The online consultation of 271 books in PDF is proposed, as well as access to 1698
Mp3 from vinyls, cassettes and CDs.
The site's Bécam catalogue is complementary to the existing catalogues (Coirault and Laforte). It adds new song-type and new occurrences of existing song-types.
The large corpus of short songs (384 song-types) and enumerative songs (266 song-types), often
neglected in existing catalogues, is taken into account. Full text research on these songs is proposed.
For standard songs added to existing catalogues, critical titles are provisional and abstracts are not
available. Further analysis is needed.
The attribution of themes to songs is only partially done and needs to be deepened.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the evolution of this site is welcome.
